I love lupins but, when I bought some last year and placed them in a long container, the slugs got to the flowers before they could fully form and destroyed all growth. I carefully checked the container, i.e. inside the outer edge and under the rim....going out around early evening (when they seem to come out) with no success. I know there are various methods for combating slugs (and I have slug pellets but am loathe to use them really + not sure about how much to use).

Anyone else had this problem and succeeded in tackling it?

Slug pellets used correctly is the only way I know Rosebay. We do have a post on slug control somewhere , Loli posted a really good slug pub made from margarine cartons. May be worth a go

OK then. Yes I read the slug thread...I was hoping to deter them rather than kill them...oh well!

I did hear about grit/small gravel being used (as a barrier) - anyone tried this? Think I did place some around the edges of the container without success.
