hi all ive just aquiered some tree lupin seeds, just wondering if anyone has any tips about sowing ,final height and pruning,if neccesary
Hi We used to grow these on the nursery I used to work on. Lupinus arboreus is the Latin name. Another worker used to sow the seeds but I don't think they needed any special treatment. They are quick growing and last for about 3 or 4 years in the garden. They get big, I had one in the garden that covered an area of about 6ft and 5ft high. When they got to about 6in tall we would nip out the growing tip to encourage them to bush out. Each year I'd cut it back fairly hard just before spring. They do appear to be a magnet for aphids though so you may need to get some aphid killer in. You can view a picture here http://www.fridley.net/gw/sb/lupinus_arboreus, 090405.jpg Paul
It's an old thread, but I just ordered a bulk of seeds, tree lupin being one of them. I'm really happy it requires 'no special treatment'. I will need to return here for reference, however.
