    hello everyone,

not a complete novice but i know enough to know i dont .................know enough that is. my garden is about 40mX60m, which is huge when it comes to filling up my beds, but tiny when the kids are playing football in it.

i am in the middle of trying to create a garden which mixes a few newish concepts with good old fashioned english gardening.

anyway-hello anyone who has been kind enough to read this longwinded gobbledygook, pleased to meet you:)

thankyou to everyone for the warm welcome, i am sure i will get lots of good advice to save me blisters. i dont mind hard work-in fact i enjoy getting stuck in.

the garden is large for the kind of house-two old miners cottages knocked through. dont get romantic images though it was derelict, damp and freezing, but when i looked in the garden i was smitten. it has taken a long time just to get the inside in order so have neglected it somewhat myself. other than a bit of lawn repair, pruning and additional planting there has been little done and this is the first year i have been able to devote any real time to it. on the plus side though it has meant that lots of critters have moved in, loads of birds, hedgehogs and even occasional fox sightings as well as bats in my leyllandii(good job it is a big garden). two mature and gorgeous oak trees, a rowan, a cherry tree (although it is looking tired), and treasure of treasures about 200 old cobbles and bits of york paving found hiding underneath the overgrown grass when we moved in. trouble is with them they need moving around and they are very heavy. it has the makings of a really lovely garden but with these treasures comes responsibilty for them and hard work so feel a little intimidated by it all, and hope to get any advice i can. i am 34 and just about young enough to do the sort of work needed-good job coz i cant afford to get any of it done for me. thats the problem with old houses-money pits!

anyway sorry for the dribbling on, thanks again everyone. looking forward to your help

    regards:)

I envy your wildlife - it adds a really fantastic dimension to any garden! Bats too! How great!

    Hello,

it is quite lovely the welcome you get here. I intend to try very hard to work out how to do the techo stuff properly. I am afraid I gave up keeping up with it as soon as remote controls got bigger than a scientific calculator.

thanks for the kind comments about my trees, they are my favourite thing in the garden. But every time one of the flowers blooms trhat becomes my favourite thing too.
