Hello eveyone. I`m having trouble with my cabbages.I`m not sure if by putting Baby Bio (diluted with water)in the holes prior to planting the young plants,I`ve overdosed them with maganese,or, they`re in need of a dose of magesium.
I`ve looked in my book and the signs are almost the same.
They were healthy last week before planting out but over the last couple of days they are gradually turning whiter, with shrivelling inward leaves.
I don`t know which way to go.Is it Epsom salts for magnesium?I can`t remember. If it`s too much maganese how can i remove it-dilute it?
    Has anyone any advice?

Hi there elaine fiz. If it is too much manganese then dilution would be in order. Just water as normal wothout additional fertiliser and see what happens. Don't quite understand where you're coming from with the Epsom salts or Magnesium though.

Hi John, since i posted i went and bought some packet cocktail which contains both maganese and magnesium and gave them a dose, after which i was told that they`ve probably only been scorched by the sun and will probably survive.(Panick, Me?) Just gonna have to wait and see.
Anyway,I think i got mixed up with Roses and magnesium? My book tells me that symptoms of maganese and magnesium are very similar.
Hi David, i used baby bio cause it`s all i had apart from the miracle grow stuff which is BLUE and freaks me out.(don`t ask)
So, after getting my knickers in a knot i have placed plastic thingy`s around them and only water outside of them.
I will put a picture up when i get my head round photo bucket again.
    many thanks Elaine.

Magnese deficency is normally identified by yellowing along the leaf edges, what youve got looks more like sun scorch or damadge caused from handaling the leaves when you planted.

I would say you have sun scorch as well!

Looking at the leaves in the centre of the plant they seem OK .Is all the growing tips a healthy green colour.

If so I would just leave them alone for a while and see what happens.

Then if things don't improve get back to us.

Looks like scorch to me too. They'll most probably recover.
When in the past I've planted/transplanted during hot weather I've put inverted flower pots over my brassicas for a few days to keep the sun off.
