At the weekend i had my first attempt of growing potatoes in a half blue barrel.
first i drilled some 1" holes in the bottom then placed a few crocks in (to stop the compost falling out when watered) then about 5" of compost then 5 or 6 seed potatoes then anouther 5"of compost on top of them leaving me about 24" to fill as they grow.
This was then topped off with a cover made from chickin wire that sits tightly over the top of the container to keep the local wildlife out.
    Now for the MAGIC part,
Everymorning when i get up the potatoes are on the surface of the compost so i bury them again and the next morning there they are sitting on the top again as if to say hello. [IMG]
I can only assume that i am doing something wrong .can anyone help?

think you might have a mouse prob.

the little boogers might be comming in via the holes in the bottom burrowing away and pushing the tattys up and out of there way
