Never had a magnolia and would love one in my garden .

Is there one that does not grow too big.

I have a Magnolia Stellata which only grows to 10', it's also a little cheaper to buy than some of the others (another reason why I bought it!)

I'd agree with that Celia. I have a Mag.Yellow River (a denudata) which grows to 10 metres never mind 10'. It's young yet but I think one day it may take over the garden. When I wanted one for the back garden,I chose a white Stellata.

Hi Scotkat I also had a magnolia stellata which my hubbie brought for our tenth anniversary such a lovely little tree and after 13 years it was still a nice compact tree although it was planted in a wooden barrel for many a year first off...notice I wrote 'had' I tried to up-root it with our move but didn't get all the roots so it sadly died.

Maybe I should have kept it in the barrel! :(

Bob didn't mind he only said that it was our special tree and it didn't seem right to leave to the 'new owners' bless him.

I'm sure you too will have many years of joy from your magnolia tree.

Helen think that is exactly what I am looking for put in a large container that if I wanted to move to another spot in the garden I could so do.

What a thoughtful husband you have .

I aslo would like the camelia yuletide think I have said this before and still not got one.

Maybe better trying to get a young plant in the Spring.

Just having a break making up christmas wreaths got orders and for christmas floral arrangements.

Having just moved into this house am surprised to see a white Magnolia in flower this week (at least until we had the heavy frosts today) - could this be M. Stellata - it is a small tree.

Is it single or double chobart? Ask daitheplant. He recommended one to me to spend money on last week. Of course that was only because I am only one quarter Welsh and he likes revenge. [IMG]

Chobart, M stellata has small, "star" shaped white flowers. John drinking litres of martini I would have thought you were at least 90% Welsh. :D
