Hello AnnieH, AFAIK, the only Magnolias that bloom in summer are the evergreen Magnolia grandiflora and it's varieties, and Magnolia sieboldii and Magnolia wilsonii. The first flowers on and off right through the summer and likes full sun. The last two flower in one flush anytime between May and July. I think that they prefer a bit of shade and shelter.
