    Hope someone can help me.

Some sort of malware has installed itself on my computer. It keeps on running itself and trying to sell me software.

I have Macafee anti malware that I have updated to the latest version. I ran it, it found some items which I quarantined.
But this malware keeps running. I have run the Macafee scans again and it tells me there is nothing there. But clearly there is.

I have also tried running uninstall through Explorer and that hasnt worked either.

    Any advice much appreciated.

Try Downloading Malwarebytes from https://www.malwarebytes.org/ THis is much better at finding Malware than anything else.
Do you know the name of the program you are trying to remove?

Sorry, it is malwarebytes, not Macafee. My mistake.

Not sure what the malware is called. Is trying to get me to buy software to remove their malware!

      Have a look at this.

      http://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/

A common strategy for malware to immunise itself against your anti-malware software is for it to come in two halves. The first half messes with your browser settings before you anti-virus stuff detects it. The change to the browser settings means that every time you go online, the very first thing that happens is the malware is downloaded and installed again. In effect, your browser has been hijacked. HijackThis is a piece of software that detects dodgy browser and registry changes and then gives you the option to fix it. Then having done so, its just a case of doing another scan with whatever anti-malware software you use just to mop any leftovers up, and it should be problem solved.

With respect, for the most part, that is not true. AVG is actually a commercial product and well respected in the industry. They do a free version with some restrictions, but it is still good. Of course these things absolutely must come from either their official site, or a reputable and known and trusted alternative, because it is perfectly easy for malicious people to download the legit version, hack it and infect it, and then publish it under the pretence that it is still the genuine product.

All that said, Microsoft Security Essentials, also free, is in my opinion the better product these days, except for browser hijacks which it is absolutely useless at defending against. That's where HijackThis comes into its own.

As Palustris says Malwarebytes is about as good as it gets.

We also have WinPatrol installed. This prevents anything from altering your machine without your permission, so these malware programs cannot take charge unless you allow them.
This does not help in your present situation. Agree that Hijack This is the way to go.
