I have an established prunus lusitanica hedge that needs extending. At our local nursery a good sizes tree (and I need acouple of them) is in excess of £20. I have to say I also do not agree with buying these established plants.

On a recent trip to the nursery I found in the sale bin 3 of same prunus which had obviously out grown their shelf life, and been cut back 3 for £10 which I bought.

I think that all they need is a good well dug spot, pleanty of mulch and blood/fish /bonemeal so I set Mr Waco onto the job (under close supervision) HOWEVER, I had just got a handful of dianthus cuttings when he started job which needed attendig to. He said he could manage the planting and to leave him alone, so I did.

Now he has dug a big hole stuck a load of compacted sh1t in it and stuck aforesaid prunus on top of this lot - what do I do?

1 - Tell him he has cocked up
    2 - give him the A - Z of planting
3 - to save his feelings, attempt to dig them up and re plant them tomorrow?

Oh the joys of being in charge of a garden!

well I do it on Sunday mornings. (tea that is)

I have dug them up and replanted them, I just was not sure I would physicaly be able to (have been off sick 8 months after accident, that is the real problem and why he had to plant them and not me in the first place) anyway job done.

I watered the ground pretending to save them from the sun, but it did disguise the soil disturbance.

His job is usually lawns and hedges, mine is.......ALL THE REST!

Oh and I thought the age of chivalry had gone!

Well he actually only does his own ironing, thats because I iron more wrinkles in than out of his shirts!

As a member of the once dominant male population am not sure about all this. I aim to stick with all that is outside and leave the rest to my better half whose ventures into the garden are either to cut flowers/etc. or to tell me where the next plant should go.................it keeps the peace at least.

jay but that is the problem, men don't like "direct orderds", I had him under controll, but just giving him a bit of long reign.

cobbybrook, you have to be single!!!

anyway are my Prunus lisitanica going to survive now? should make a good hedge if they do.
