Manure on rasberries?

Can I put manure onto my rasberries now or not?

Hi Stingo,

I'd let the sun warm the soil up a bit first, give them a liquid feed in march & then use the manure as a mulch, stop the soil overheating & drying out in the summer. They were originally a woodland plant so dont like growing in the open without a bit of care.

 

I mulch mine with manure every Autumn (which often means during the Winter as I am behind with tasks)

But I have now read my RHS book:

Top dress with 1 of sulphate of potash per square yard in late January, and every 3rd year add 2 ox Superphosphate per sq. yard.

In late March apply Sulphate of Ammonia at 1/2 oz per sq yard. Apply to an area including 18" each side of the row.

Also in late March mulch with a 2" layer of garden compost, damp peat or manure - keeping the material just clear of the canes. This will conserve moisture and inhibit weeds.

In dry weather water regularly, but keep the water off the canes to reduce risk of fungal infection.

That gives me something different to do then :thumb:
