For those of you who remember the 1980's series starring Prunella Scales, Geraldine McEwan and Nigel Hawthorne and enjoyed watching it, you can see the new series starring Miranda Richardson, Anna Chancellor and Steve Pemberton.

    It's on BBC 1 at 9.05 p.m. tonight and 9 p.m. tomorrow and Wednesday.

It's set in the 1930 and is a humorous study of the social interplay between two snooty social climbers. If it's as good as the original series it will be well worth watching.

They were fortunate to have pretty good filming weather for the location scenes which also helped me to get some good shots.

They were certainly fussy about shooting the scenes as they took an hour and a half to do lots of 'takes' of just driving a car round the corner.

Makeup had to be redone for each take!

The car was a pretty good replica

An amazing amount of technicians were needed just for that brief shooting!

What location is that Shiney ?
It amazes me the amount off effort it takes to make an outside period shoot . As the photo shows dozens of technicians . The end bill must be huge !

They have filmed a lot of indoor church scenes for the new Da Vinci film to be released next year at St Theodores in Taibach. Had to come back for some.

As I know the characters so well from the 80's series and have watched it several times on Sky since .... its looking good , the Georgia Character played by Steve Pemberton , reminds me of the character he played in League of Gentlemen "Herr Lip" :snork:

I think like any series its like Marmite ... yes or no

        @shiney great photos

For those of you that have been watching the programme,

This is the house that Mapp is living in

and the house that Lucia is living in

          P1190016.JPG

The doors of both places were open most of the time because of the crew rushing in and out.

Here is where Lucia was doing her painting at the start of yesterday's episode

As you will have noticed, the weather was glorious for the filming so far. It did cause some problems. The cast needed to have their makeup redone regularly because of the heat and the filming needed to have a lot of reflectors because of the deep shadows caused by the bright sunshine.

its all about how they are perceived with each other and the class of which they think they are in and the rivalry that goes on to be top dog , but set in a small village !!!! , all just false snobs living in a bubble, upper-middle-class British people in the 1920s and 1930s
The 3 programs have been squeezed in , but the original series with Prunela Scales & Geraldine McEwan was much longer .

I've seen the first two. It is quite good and probably the best of a very bad bunch of stuff on TV over the holidays (could it get any worse??). Anna Chancellor is good. But other characters from the book are badly cast. For me it is not a patch on the original from the mid 1980s which I would definitely recommend, fab TV. I have the boxset and is always worth a re-viewing.
