Mapp and Lucia was a 1980's TV series adapted from the famous books by E. F. Benson and is set in the 1930's.

They're now filming a new series (with new cast) and we were at the location set (in Rye, where Benson lived) on Thursday.

It took them hours to set up, film (lots of takes) and clear up - just to film a car driving around a corner!

Are you ready for the take?

There were lots of crew (all young!).

And a lot of hanging around between takes - the car had to reverse around the corner each time.

Having filmed the car coming round the corner they need to try and keep the cast cool so that they don't have to have their make-up re-done.

Once shooting is over there is all the clearing up and time to relax for the cast

For car buffs, I don't thing this is an original (but what do I know? :noidea:) as the exhaust doesn't look right to me. It certainly pumped out a lot of smoke and made a lot of noise!

Wow oh yes remember the series well and I loved it.. Not sure how I feel about a new cast is Geraldine McEwan still playing Lucia..?? I wonder if they will pull it off without Nigel Hawthorn & Prue' Scales.. The three of them were just perfect... Will look forward to seeing the new series..

Oh dear, I have never heard of it  mind you I was living and working overseas almost continually from the mid 70's to the late 80's and when I came home on leave watching TV wasn't a priority
Thanks to Shineys excellent photographs and everyone's comments I will have to ensure that I don't miss it this time round :ThankYou:

                    A little Mozartino, Georgie?

Loved the original, cannot imagine how it could be improved upon! Have the box-set and watch it now and then, always enjoyable. The new series will be interesting and can imagine Anna Chancellor (marvellous actress in any case) being excellent as well as Miranda Richardson. Not sure the male actors strike me favourably for some reason.... Will look forward to it in any case. Thanks for the alert @shiney

For those that may remember it, both Mapp and Lucia used the expression 'Au reservoir' instead of 'au revoir'! :heehee:
