Sowed my parsnips in toilet roll cores yesterday, will keep them in the greenhouse until they show, then they're straight out into the plot.

I planted some Toms, Cabbage, Cauli, Aubergine and Chilli in mid Feb.

Went to my seed box over the weekend to see what needed happen in March - Crickey! rather a lot ...

Cues, Melon, the Cherry-type Toms, Leeks, Celeriac, Beetroot, Radish, more Cauli, Sprouts, first lettuce; also Parsnip and Carrots (could maybe have gone in Feb, but soil too cold)

Also some Freesias, Marigolds (to frighten the bugs away!) and Lobelia for the tubs (probably Petunias too, but seed for them hasn't arrived yet - GC only had mixed colours, and I wanted single-colour, so only realised and ordered last week - only T&M have single-colour Petunias, that was a surprise to me ... don't folk plant a colour-scheme anymore :( )

You're right about that kristen. I remember years ago being able to get lots that were specified. One of my favourites was Cherry Frost, deep red with a white edge. Ah well, it's probably a production thingy. Cheers...freddy.

My petunia and pansys have just been potted on into cells and some dhalia too :)

the first set of beans and peas will be done this afternoon and I think my spuds are about ready for going into their bags but that means cleaning out the cold frame and that's going to be done in the week.

Such a warm day in the Vale today I was forced to plant out some onions and garlic this morning that have been well rooted in tubes in the conservatory.
Awaiting their turn are some carrots, peas, parsnips lettuce, toms, sweet peas, marigolds, cucumber, all doing nicely thank you. Still in the packet are the runner beans, dawrf french beans... but not for long..

Today I started Stachys lanata and Gaura lindheimeri for what is going to be my gravel garden at the front of the new house. (Finally got round to taking the "before" pictures but I'm computer-illiterate so Mr S will show me how to post them tomorrow). Also my favourite viola, Arkwright's Ruby, and some pelargoniums and freesias.
Mr S is a keen veg grower, and he pre-chits all his seeds before sowing. I used not to bother but have been converted, so I put them in margarine tubs on kitchen paper dampened with warm water, then put the lids on and put the tubs in the airing cupboard. We often try old seed this way so that we know if it is viable before sowing.
I started my sweet peas this way 2 weeks ago, ( Fragrantissima from T&M, excellent germination rate) and sowed them in toilet roll tubes 4 days later.
Last year I grew cut flowers in the veg plot, started everything off much too early and had problems with things getting potbound because the ground wasn't ready, and the poor sweet peas were traumatised by hail storms and never recovered! So this year I waited, and suddenly we've got warm, sunny days and it's time to get on with it !

peas and beans sowed today-never done staking for a veg before-it's quite a ramshackle higgledy piggledy affair but they'll work.

That's just fantastic Kristen-I have three pairs nesting in the leyllandii. Is that now whilst they are seeds or later when they have peas...or as is probably the case both?
