Mares Tail

My daughter has just moved into a house with a large garden which has significant problems with what I think is called mares or horse tail?

I'm no gardener but I have been trying to remove weeds (of which there is an abundance) and particularly trying to rid the garden of this particular variety. I have tried digging it out but it is back before I can move to the next bed!

What should I use to kill-off this menace please?

Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

 

Must try that Deep Root

 

Deep Root is now, sadly, banned. But if you can find it in your local Garden Centre still on sale definitely worth getting some. ("Banned" means illegal to sell after XXX and illegal for, amateur gardeners, to use after YYY - I haven't checked, but it may well still be either legal to sell, or legal to use, but whatever, its the only useful chemical in the armoury against Marestails.

It seems my daughter has got a really nasty problem with this weed but I have taken the comments on board and I'll try out the suggestions offered.

It sure doesn't look like an easy task!!

 

I think one of the best comments I have read about Mares-tails is "Never let it see a Sunday" - hoe, pull, whatever, but aim to weaken it by continuous battle :thumb:

 

From what I can see Deep Root has NOT been banned. Kristen are you confusing it with Root Out which HAS been banned?:gnthb:

Yup, that's the one, sorry for the confusion.

Deep root doesn't contain Ammonium Sulphamate, which is the best chemical I know of to kill Mares tails, whereas Root out does.

(Although Deep Root contains the Ammonium salt of Glyphosate - dunno if that is better at killing Mares tails than products containing regular Glyphosate, which don't give a good "kill rate")

 

I don't care what is banned, or for whatever reason, this stuff is a menace to our garden and so I will use whatever means to get rid of it, regardless of some self-opinionated 'Expert' who claims this, that, or the other, and because they find it so in their own garden.

 

I think the fact that it is banned means you'll struggle to find anywhere where you can buy it. But if you've got some on the shelf ... :thumb:
