Think everyone in political circles would agree she was a force to be reckoned with! A fearsome woman with a keen mind

I preferred her on Spitting Image - much more entertaining. I think she initiated the Greed Culture.

She was a politician, surely nobody sheds a tear over politicians.

I think its best to read this before judging her, and her actions.

The country was in a much better state when she left power than it was when she started.

That all depends on your perspective. If you watched it all from inside one of the communities she destroyed, you might argue that the country was made a whole lot worse by her.

As a resident of the Liverpool area, it can't come to soon.. and the best thing was, Liverpool is having a major architectural and cultural resurgence, no thanks to her.. funnily enough it was the Tories that gave the go ahead for many of Liverpool's new development.. well she just hated Liverpool, and well we just hated her. No sympathy.. Liverpool's uprising is just a middle finger really as far as she's concerned.

In part, and without wanting to sound too callous, those communities were lead by the unions, and in the 70s the unions ruled the country, or aleast thought they did.

The likes of Arthur Scargil calling miners strikes at the drop of a hat, and then holding the country to ransom with massive pay claims that the rest of us could only dream about. There was us trying to work for two days a week under a 40 watt light bulb and no machinery, just because miners were told by Scargil they were special.
Many mine workers went away with redundacy payouts that would be considered excessive these days

We had British Leyland, striking because they didn't like the colour of the paint in the new toilets,(joke), then wanting yet another bail out from the tax payer, when nobody wanted to buy their rubbish motors.

She ended all that nonsence, ok maybe it wasn't kind, but it had to go, we were know as the sick man of Europe until she turned it around.

Not everything she did was right, but in hindsight you must admit Tony Blair and co. did have a ball dragging us right back down to where we started.

Being a Scot, I am firmly in the camp that didn't like Maggie and particularly the decisions that she took. I saw first hand the devastation that was caused to mining communities amongst other things, and believe that this country still hasn't recovered and probably never will.

However, much as I disliked her and am not sorry to see her go, I also think that its important that due respect is paid for the sake of her family and friends, and in my humble opinion I don't think it is right for politics to be involved in anyone's death, nor do I think its appropriate to make nasty comments such as some that I have seen bandied about in the media already.

Every word of this is true!!! People have such short memories of what it was really like.
If she was such a bad leader then why was she voted back into power so many times?!?!

Whether we liked Margaret Thatcher's policies or not she was a great leader with a 'back bone' and achieved a lot of what she set out to do. We haven't seen that from any Prime Minister since World War 2.

                          RIP Lady Margaret Thatcher.
