OH thought, rather cruelly, that perhaps they have had their limbs removed. :D Does anyone else have examples of Martianspeak? A local courier now 'uplifts' its parcels rather than collecting them. This has led to many quips about depressed, moribund parcels, all of which seem to have fallen on very stoney ground indeed. Perhaps Martians don't have much of a sense of humour.
There's loads at my new work place, last week a manager emailed us to say that a "big project is now experiencing runoff". Putting that phrase through the google Bull Sh!t translator it means: we have lost a big contract and all the good staff have cleared off to better paid jobs whilst my dept will be lumbered with all the cr@p workers.
That's a good one, John. I like 'runoff'. It has slightly icky connotations - a neutered way of saying: 'this project is in deep sh!t'. I think I might use it in a looser (no pun intended) sense, as in 'I have been experiencing runoff today'.
