After my typical total failures, especially last year, I've been caught out by things unexpectedly growing.

#1 Four ricinus in a dolly tub. Normally they don't get higher than 8" for me but this year they are all 2 feet high already. Oh dear.

#2 Twelve Dolichos lablab in a lead tank. Last year the same plants in the same tank grew about 1" all season after planting out and required frequent bail outs. I gather these can get to 6 metres under good conditions, I've got 12 in there, plus some nicotianas and verbenas. With only a flimsy contraption of bamboo and string to hold them up, (not that they are interested in twining despite being 18" high already.) Whoops.[IMG]

    Anyone else similarly caught out?

    Frequently!

I sowed some seed for several Lachenalia species (a winter growing S.African bulb) in anticipation of another crap summer - it's been a battle keeping them going these last few weeks!

Lablab is growing like crazy and really needs repotting
