Mow it regularly. Twice a week except in drought. Never scalp it, only ever take off 1/3rd of the grass blade length maximum ... e.g. if you haven't been able to cut the grass for awhile Rain / Holiday. Keep the blades sharp.

The finer grasses will be happy with that, the coarse ones will die out.

Overseeding the lawn, with your preferred seed-mix, may help (e.g. at a rate of 50% of what you would use for a new lawn)

Can you show a pic of the problem grass.

mowing sadly will not eradicate problem grasses. Some types can be tackled by slicing, normally a good scarify can help while others need to be tackled by Ph levels which suit other grass types and not the problem grass ie annual meadow grass. If it’s annual meadow grass mowing will not help.
There’s been a recent rise of lime based fertilisers pushed but they either don’t contain enough to make any difference or they are over applied far to much and you end up with more issues.
This is where fertilisers can create issues as they raise the Ph levels which promotes some problem grasses.
There’s also some thought that iron can tackle grass types and I’m not sure why this is doing it’s rounds on some forums.

Robert. A very warm welcome to Gardeners Corner.

Now then. What do you mean by 'Meadow Grass'. Please, as the saying goes. Trust me, I'm a doctor. So what is this meadow grass?
