For the past few months I have had swelling to my face .
Mostly round my eyes and sometimes down the sides of my face.
This always happens in the night.
    Sometimes wakes me.
The next day it starts to go down as soon as I get up but some times can take 48 hours to go completely back to normal.
The swelling is very noticeable sometimes one of my eyes is almost closed.
I have been to the Doctor, he said take antihistamine, that did no good.
    I'm having blood tests tomorrow.
I just wondered if anyone else as ever had or knows anyone who as had a similar thing.
I have had a flu type virus for months which I am finding hard to shake off.
I don't no if it's to do with that.
The only medication I take is thyroxin for an underactive thyroid.
Anyone have any ideas what it could be.
I'm getting a bit worried about it as it's going on for so long.
My face is so swollen today.
I look like I have been beaten. :(

I'm not sure this is best place to seek medical advice. Even if we were all medical experts here, a web forum isn't the best medium for conveying the full details of the condition.

Get a second opinion, if you're concerned Lyn (which you sound like you are!). Fingers crossed for the blood tests tomorrow though.

Hi Lyn sorry to hear you are feeling Grot.I am not sure what could be the problem, although a few years ago I suffered similar problems to you and mine turned out to be Sinus and blocked tear ducts which I had to go into hospital and get sorted.

Hopefully your blood tests might pin point what the problem could be and I do hope that you get an answer for your problem as I know all too well how debilertating a frozen face can be.

Good Luck and do keep us posted as to how things go for you.:thumb:

:) Hi Lyn, it is nice to see if others suffer from similar things I agree... I suffer from Idiopathic Urticaria (acute hives) which causes swellings to my face & upper body periodically... No real cause has been found which is very common for this problem... I do take an anti histamine for it but it took quite a while to find one that worked in the beginning.. I have also been prescribed an aqueous cream which helps....
Sometimes I can wake up with on my face it in the mornings & they say this is caused by pressure & warmth..!
It took quite a while & many tests before they sent me to a dermatologist, but they soon sorted it out... Maybe ask to be referred to a Dermatologist it may be something like I have... I also have a cousin who suffers from a similar ailment called Angioedema... So see what your doc says but I think I would ask to see a dermatologist if nothing comes from the blood tests... :thmb: Good Luck with it all my dear...

I have had problems with my sinus due to the virus .
It does tend to be the side I sleep on that swells in the night.
I'll point this out to the Doctor next time I go.
I'll see what the blood tests show ,if anything.
    Thank you for answering me.
It is nice sometimes to no that your not on your own with a problem.
I do get scared in the morning when I look in the mirror wondering whats wrong with me.
Then I have to go out and explain it. :o
It's been going on about 5 months.
    I'm sure some people think I'm a battered wife.:hehe:

No offence taken. Sorry if I gave that impression.

My only concern is that if you were to take advice from someone who had similar symptoms, it may not be right for you and may be detrimental to your health.

As an example, and by no means to scare anybody, imagine if somebody had chronic chest pain and somebody said "I had that, it was indegestion, I fixed it with some Calpol", then that somebody took some Calpol and rested, it wouldn't help them much if they were having a heart attack. An extreme example I know, but my point is that a particular symptom may be caused by any number of different conditions and as much as we would all like to help, and hope you get better soon, we can't possibly determine the best course of action reliably and safely.

Calpol won't help much with indigestion either Clueless.

Lyn, I am sorry you have to deal with all of this, it must be worrying. I haven't a clue about hwat could be causing it, but you do right to go to the doctor-I'm certain it will be fine and he/she'll have you right as rain Lyn.

Couple of things I thought of was sinus problems and also some reaction to a change in soap powder etc...
seems like a few friends on here have thought the same.

I know that when my sinuses play up my face swells up and I look like I have panda eyes.

Sorry to hear that it has been going for for so long. The flu virus this last few months has been horrid. My Mum would asttest to that.

    please keep us informed though.

Good luck with the blood tests tomorrow Lyn. Hope you get good result from the Doctor soon.:gnthb:

Don't you just hate these weird things that no-one knows the answer to. I've got to have a lumbar puncture next week to do with a problem with my leg - not looking forward to that.
