Bought a melon seedling from a local nursery. First time. Lost the record of the breed (sorry).

Anyway, it has been steadily dying all summer so far and has just about given up. Got it in a pot in the greenhouse. Soil has been kept moist throughout, with a bit of feeding with tomato feed.

Any ideas? Or is it like cucumbers, and they just up and die for no apparent reason?

    Hi Jack,

I've had the same problems with all my cucurbits this year, I don't think it limited to melons, had to make repeat sowings of most of them, the drought, howling winds, low temperatures and lack of light is conspiring against them.

Some have got away now, but its a bit late to be starting again with melons now.

Nothing like cucumbers, melons are harder to grow well.

My personal thoughts are if its not growing well now, its probably too late to turn things around.

They like less humidity and slightly dryer growing conditions than cues.

I`ve lost all the melons I was growing for a client, courgettes failed and struggled with cucumbers. Peppers are also rubbish.
