Somewhat reluctantly I am trying to make my life a bit easier and have bought some membrane for the veg beds. I am busy making holes in it with a soldering iron which is working rather well! Hopefully doing this will stop too much fraying.
I don’t have any pins to hold the membrane down and was wondering if the metal pins or plastic pins would be better? Obviously I will want to remove the membrane every now and again. From the look of the pins I think the metal ones look the best bet but hopefully someone can advise me before I buy. I would try and make some myself from fencing wire but really don’t have that much time on my hands as need to get planting asap.

I’ve never used pins because I once read that they are difficult to remove without damaging the fabric too much if you want to re-use it. I use fabric on my dahlia bed with holes cut into it as you are doing. I weigh it down with milk bottles filled with water. Cheap and effective but probably not a good look!

Metal coat hangers or thick gauge galvanised wire, made into U shape and pushed into the ground...jobs a goodun...and a cheap one too

I use the 6" metal membrane staples on my fabric and I don't find it does much if any damage.
The staples mostly go through the weave so cause very little damage to the fabric itself

        I use my slug destroyers.
House bricks, not very subtle, but then I never have been.

I've used the galvanised metal ones and they are great...just make sure to look around, there are some places that sell them cheaply when buying a largish quantity. I got my last lot in 2021 from here...they were about £3.50 cheaper for 100 than currently, but such is life

Hmm maybe I won’t bother as have mountains of bits of slabs kicking about. Next winter when nothing better to doI might attack some of my coast hangers. Thanks, off to get some heavy bits of god knows all what before the membrane takes flight!

I think I got the metal ones in Lidl or pound shop. Quite solid and cheap. I'm not using them for membrane, but to hold home made slate labels.
