I uped the memory on my PC a while back, but I still think it struggles a bit at times, I often get a message saying that windows is creating more memory.

the last time I did it I added a watsit from PC world, it was DDR, PC2700, 512MB.
    333MHz 184 pin.
Well I was looking for 1GB, but I thought I might get it cheaper on line.

I assume I have to stick to the DDR bit, but can I buy this,
    http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=102237&PHPSESSID=aebca39a9df911b97cb8c533d48dbdb9

The MHz is different and the PC no,

The 1GB with the same spec. does not seem to be avilable.

Pete, I would be tempted to go to PC World and ask their technical guy what you needed. ie do you need DDR? does the Mhz matter if its a bit faster etc? Are there different types etc? Or ask them to point out in the shop the item you need. Then buy it on line.

I have no compunction. They have lied to me in the past - telling me I needed a special camera cable (the original got lost) for £24 from them, when I found out after it was a universal standard and you could buy it for £2.

    Pete,

Go to the crucial website and they will tell you the exact ram your pc will take.
    http://www.crucial.com/uk
Click the scan my system. I give you this professional advice for the endless gardening advise i've recieved from you guys.

The different types will be DDR1 and DDR2 that will be applicable. Then there will be the latencies on the type. If you find the manufacturer codes you can actually search places like ebuyer and microdirect websites to buy it a lot cheaper than off cruicial.

I'd like to actually feed back into this forum something i DO know. [IMG]

Thanks Newbie, I did the scan and it came up with the info I think I need and answered a few questions.
    Very clever stuff.

Its a pity that I only have 2 slots, so I will need to get rid of one that is already in there in order to upgrade it.
I only have 768mb, 512 of that I added about a year ago to the puny 256 that I started with.

Hi Folks, just to add my wee bit in. If you have 2 memory Dimms which run at a different speed, the faster will always run at the slower rate

As long as the motherboard supports the speed. It is OK to mix as long as they are the same technology, i.e sd ram; ddr; ddr2. Like I said if you get same type of memory but faster type all the memory will run at the slower speed. I suppose the next question would be ' Would the home user notice this difference in speed?' I wouldn't think so
