Messy tall bush

Any advice how i could improve this bush ? Would hacking it back and general tidy be the correct way forward







it's very thick and looking messy , tops looking healthy 6ft and above!

Looks a bit like an overgrown privet hedge to me.
If it is you can cut it hard back, but it will not look good until next summer.
