Just dropped below freezing here with a slight mist, but can see stars faintly.
Got the camera ready ISO 1600 f4 and set to bulb. If the sky clears a bit we should see some fireworks, but I ain't counting chickens!

No luck in the Vale either..Such as shame. It amazes me how the weather knows how to spoil a spetacular astronomical event..but im sure it does!

I stepped out for a gander after the snooker had finished, I only managed a quick peek-it was f-f-f-freezing outside.

Saw about 5 between 2200 and 2300 and one very bright one. I'd been expecting to see them more or less due south at 45 degrees elevation, but most of the ones I saw were at about 60 to 70 degrees eleveation and ESE. Attempts at a photo were dismal failures- mainly due to the idiot factor, as the idiot handn't set the lens focus on infinity. Got some very blurry star pics!
Frost has gone and it's overcast today, so doubt if the sky will clear enough tonight - even if I do set the focus properly.

For years I hadn't seen a ingle meteor, then over the last week or so I've spotted two good examples just by chance when I wasn't even looking for them. I was just stood in the garden having a smoke at the time.

I missed out on the last big meteor shower because it remained overcast for the entire time.

When you get a meteor shower, can you see it from anywhere in the northern hemisphere? The reason I ask is that by far the clearest night sky I've ever seen was when I went on holiday to Lanzarote. The air over the island is so dry that the night sky is just so vivid. I reckon it would be a good cheap place to go for amateur astronomers.

I've seen a good few shooting stars recently, but always around 5 am.
