I read somewhere that you could get cuttings by layering a stem or branch, I tried it with my mexican orange blossom by putting a stone on one of its branches in April and it seems to have worked, but what do I do now I'm not sure where to cut the stem or when and do I put it into a pot or straight into the ground :( any ideas? Thanks

Let it get a reasonable root system before you cut it off just where it enters the ground.
If you only did it in April, personally I'd wait till next spring and then cut it off and pot it up for a couple of months.

Thanks Pete, do you think I should protect it in some way from the frosts in winter it is in quite an exposed site, in fact I'm surprised the plant is doing so well at all but it looks very healthy at the moment [IMG]

I think its hardier than people think, but having said that I dont really know what your winters are like. Is it a new plant this year or have you had it while?
If you get sub zero winds, then I would protect it, also if you get continuous frost, the kind where the plant doesn't thaw out for days.

Hi folks, its time to pot up my cutting I think, but the whole plant including the layered cutting is covered in flower buds. Should I pot up with the flower buds, or I should take them off first.? Any ideas? Thanks [IMG]

Pinching off the flower buds of the young plant may focus its energy on growing, but if the roots are good now then it should be fine with them left on. Depends if you want flowers straight away or quicker growth. [IMG]

Thanks Tortuosa,I think I will take the flower buds off and hope for some quicker growth. The whole plant is getting ready to burst into life,I will try and get a pic when it does. [IMG]
