Hi Michaelmas Daisy! Saw this one growing wild in Epping Forest this morning and thought of you

mine always get powdery mildew, I do have a wild one that is very healthy, but I do better with the Fricartii cross which is just starting to flower and will do so into October.

what a nice thought hornbeam - bet you buy your wife chocolates for her birthday too

It took me right back to my childhood where there was a big (or so it seemed to me!) run of MD all along the side of the house. They grew there all straggly and unkempt (my parents were no gardeners!) and they too, Waco, were always covered in powdery mildew. But as we lived in the sticks and had a cesspit that regularly overflowed with seven of us in the house, I always assumed it was due to their regular dousing with sewage!!

 

so sweet hornbeam you could almost see the teardrop in my eye :( :D
