    Can someone help me with my microwave problem.We have a Delonghi 800w Microwave which we bought December 2006.It has been working fine when we use it and still looks brand new.:)

    I have just put in a couple of potato's to cook as baked potato's and left it cooking while I prepared my salad stuff to go with it.When I went to check on the spuds and to turn them over after seven minutes,the spuds were stone cold:eek: The spuds had been turning ok on the turntable and the light was on inside so I reset the oven for longer time than was left and started it up again.Again after aout five minutes I checked on the spuds and they were still hard and there was still no heat in the oven.:(

    Can anyone tell me what could be wrong and if it is terminal.... Thanks:)

    As nut says. Unfortunately this means a new microwave is in order.

    Aside from that I thought magnatron was a transformer.

    Not necessarily the magneto. Microwaves have a safety cut-off designed to switch off the magneto immediately if the door is opened or if an electrical fault is detected. All this purely academic though as it is usually cheaper to replace kit nowadays than it is to repair. And don't be tempted to open it up yourself, there are some nasty voltages inside a microwave, even when disconnected from the mains (they hold a charge in the circuit that powers the magneto).

    I had a panasonic that did this, usually if it was used for a while on oven setting. Got it replaced under the warranty though.

    Hi everyone Thanks for your advice.I am a bit annoyed because our old Microwave lasted yonks and I mean yonks.:(

    We only replaced it because when we were away two Christmas's ago when we were staying in our caravan up in Derbyshire silly Mr Kandy hadn't checked the camping gas bottles so the one I was using to cook the Turkey with ran out so he quickly got out the spare.Guess what,that one was empty as well:eek: Luckily the dinner apart from the vegetables was finished so I had to juggle the saucepans on theonly electric ring we had on the stove:rolleyes:Boxing day we had to trek to Chesterfield to buy a new one,which is the one that has just packed up.We only paid £30 odd for it,but at least it got us through until we could get some more gas.:rolleyes::)

    Oh well,I will pass on the info to Mr Kandy so we will have to buy another one.If we take the Delonghi to the local tip the tip owners will grab it to sell because as I said at the start of the thread it still looks brand new,but for what we paid for it couldn't expect it to last forever,and it would probably cost us more to get it repaired than what it cost to buy in the first place:rolleyes::D

    Thanks once again:thumb:

    I know what you mean Kandy-how can anyone honestly be expected to not buy new when the reapirs are so high?

    Your Christmas panic sounds funny-not so at the time I imagine. Always seems to happen around that time doesn`t it?

    Lolli,what gotme was tat Mr Kandy said that he had checked the spare gas bottle that by the weight of it thought it was ok.I had the turkey,roast souds,yorkshire,bacon and sausages cooked so was just waiting for the vegetables to finish cooking so we could dish up.I wasn't very pleased when he told me that the spare bottle was empty:eek:

    I had to juggle te saucepans on the electric ring to finish them off,so we could have Christmas dinner:rolleyes::(

    After dinner we rang Losehill the other Caravan Club site ten miles away and the warden told us they had some spare bottles but were keeping them in case any of their members bottles ran out:mad: We spent part of Christmas afternoon driving round to see if any of the local garages were open as they often sell the stuff but they were all closed:rolleyes: We then had to trek out boxing morning to get the microwave before the garages opened the next day,that is why we bought a cheap one.....

    I'll tell you sometime about the time we went to Mull in Scotland on a weekend railway trip and thanks to Mr Kandy we missed the Ferry we were suppossed to be catching,but I'll leave that one for another day:rolleyes:

    PS still can't believe I ended marrying him after the above episode,still it's what keeps us on our toes...{sorry the gremlins have gone on strike}

    Jan-That sounds exactly like me when I took my I pod back to the shop and played holy hell with the assistant, until they showed me the switch on the top-mortifying. Said assistant was a spotty youthwho looked at me like I`d rolled up in a horse and cart.
