I want to plant a hedge but i don't want it to be a species that breeds midges or mosquitoes etc. Can anyone suggest any species of hedge plant that is good for birds and makes a good hedge but doesn't breed biting insects?

I think midges and mozzies are need standing water to breed, so nothing to do with the plants , or not directly at least. Some plants might seem to be more attractive to mozzies than others, but I suspect that's more because both (plant and mozzie) have similar habitat preferences, ie damp places.

I did read in one of my seed catalogs that eucalyptus is a natural repellent to mozzies and midges, but can't vouch for that as I've never grown it.

Surely the midges and mozzies are a good food source for the birds?:dbgrtmb:
