This might look like just a patch of soil to you, and it is, but to me this is where I make for to gauge how soon Spring will come:

So when this happens I give a happy sigh, hitch up my pants, wear a silly smile, and know that Spring is looming in just a few [well, alright maybe more than a few:heehee:] weeks away.

Steady on, chaps. It's only Jan 12th. We could have months of sleet, blizzards and windscreen scraping right up until May.

      Ever the pessimist.

But, no, I can hardly wait either.

You've got to have your dreams, lolimac!!:D:yahoo::hapfeet: I'm not sure whether or not I want my garden to be Gold Medal Winner though:scratch::heehee: I find I know whether it's a good year or not when I settle down somewhere in the garden with a mug of tea or glass of wine, have a quiet look around and a smile comes on my face.....and that :yess: feeling warms my mind. That happened last year and I'm hoping it will happen this year.............well, I can dream, and don't we all do just that in some way or another.:heehee::heehee::D

Fab pictures Armandii. *sigh*. I s'pose we shouldn't be wishing our lives away. I just always feel better in the summer. I find myself watching TV and thinking, "Look at those gorgeous green leaves, must have been June when they filmed that."

I think I've got the decorative gardening pretty much covered, I'd like to do better at the edible stuff, though.

Thinking about it, my garden would also really benefit from better bedding in late summer and autumn. I'm not very good at bedding plants, I think I've probably got feeding and watering issues.

I must admit, Madahhlia, I'm not a fan of bedding plants. Mostly, I think, because I've seen too many lined up in rows like soldiers in front gardens:D:heehee: I have tried to extend the flowering season longer by planting as many herbaceous perennial plants, and as many varieties of them, in the borders as I can. I also rely on a lot of different bulbs as I can get to start the season as early as possible and to extend it as late as possible. Some years it works and some years it doesn't:heehee:. but in the majority it does work. Bedding plants mean a lot of planting and then afterwards digging them up.:rolleyespink::WINK1::D
