I examined my passionflower seedling a few days ago and found something tiny crawling in the pot. It was less than a millimetre in size but from what I could see, it looked and moved like a red spider mite, only it was white/ light. It didn't have wings and didn't jump. I squished it but saw another today. What can I use to kill/ keep the beasties away, without risking destorying my one, small seedling?
Hi jw ... try some washing up liquid mixed with water in a spray bottle ... I use that for all the nasty creepy crawlies (including ants) in my garden on my Brugmansias, Roses, Fruit Trees, etc.
You reminded me; I had some insect repellant soap so I tried a mix of that with water. I performed an emergency repotting too because when I went to spray them there were lots more of the critters! Between the repotting and the water-soap mix, it seems to have got rid of them, thanks very much! :gnthb: Also, when I was fiddling in the soil I saw some more germinated seeds that were too deep to survive where they were. Now I have at least two passion flower seedlings :luv: Funny way life has of changing things around; in a weird way the potential pests saved some germinating passionflowers since I wouldn't have been digging under the soil otherwise.
