    Hubby said to me yesterday
"Why do you like gardening so much?"
I was quite stunned for an answer for a while but I liken myself to Christine on "Christines Garden" (used to be on tv) and she said she
" eats it ,drinks it, sleeps it and dreams it.

For an example I've had this week off work and all I've been doing (mostly) is gardening and I don't paticularly want to do anything else.

    Is that very sad?!

    Not sad in the least!

There is often nothing I'd rather do than garden. That is why my house can be such a mess!

Stingo and JarBax I am so with you, what could be nicer than being outdoors enjoying the sunshine (occasionaly ) the bird song and trying to ignore the kids? [IMG]

What's sad about being in the fresh air, helping (or trying to )nature and growing your own produce? [IMG]

Jarbax I'm lucky as my hubby does most of the housework [IMG]

Glad you are all with me but why do you think it is such an obsession with us English?

I suppose because when the sun is shining our gardens look gorgeous and you can't beat England in the summer.

    Stingo,

I was actually excited to get home from work yesterday and up a step ladder to s****e the wooly aphids off my apple tree. Whilst not a pleasant job, there was nothing in the house I would rather have been doing. I get upset if the weather is going to prevent me from acheiving my gardening plans and I look forward to the weekends -not for the socialising, meals out etc but for the gardening I can do.

I think I am not just sad but borderng on crazy. My house is seriously lacking in attention at the mo and poor hubby is having to do everything inside. Sometimes I think I should maybe hide how much I enjoy it then I can claim I am doing chores and we're even, but he know's I love it, where as he does not love doing the washing and hoovering!

I hope it doesn't rain all weekend so we can get some serious hours in!

    Cheers EGW

I'm sure that I bore my hubby terribly because gardening is all I want to do.

For instance yesterday in the pouring rain I was planting a rose! admittedly i did start to plant it before it started raining but hey ho.. mad woman or what!!

Stingo, I am sure our hubbies are probably glad that we have something to keep us quiet and from annoying them!

I got soaked last night collecting snails and slugs and picking up weeds. Hubby thinks I am mad but doesn't bother protesting anymore!

I was back out there in the rain at 7 this morning collecting some new offenders!

Your probably right ellie, must admit I don't do a snail/slug patrol but maybe I should as there were millions of them yesterday.

What do you do with them once collected?

It's terrible to admit this as it is most cruel but I just put them in a plastic bag in the wheele bin!

I started off running rescue missions and taking them to the woods (once 100 in one go!) but I find about 50 per week and gave up. Also they have really upset me this spring with the new plants they have devoured so no more mr nice guy! I know I should stand on them but I just can't bring myself to do it!

You should get out there tonight, they are loving this wet weather. It will be the first thing I do when I get home tonight, before I put all my poor water logged pots in the shed as I don't think some of them can take anymore water!

Then I am sure I'll find something else to do.....

Well I think gardeners are amongst the sanest of humans on the planet [IMG]
I could live outside in the fresh air, and get really bored when the weekends are wet
Wonderwoman also could live in the garden. Which is just as well as we have about 2 acres of garden to maintain [IMG]
Do I win the million dollars?

Well I do think to garden is very calming [IMG]
I have been completely bored today because of the very heavy rain, it is quite impossible to do anything out there.

LOL whis4ey the million dollars is still to be won :D

There is no great mystery WHY we garden, when we can help nature to create such beauty.

well..... put it this way - its got to the point where I am hoping its going to be a bad weekend weather-wise, as I'm embarrassed of the state of the inside of the house!!! But why do I like gardening so much???? Its my saviour!! It de-stresses and relaxes me, as well as lowering the blood pressure, it burns up calories too!! And there is nothing like the self-smugness feeling of tucking into home grown stuff - especially when your runners are better than the mother inlaws!!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
