    Hi Can anyone advise please!
Those mini greenhouses you can buy, are they any good to keep your bedding plants in till after frost has gone?

Yes, MEF750 - I keep mine in there or in a coldframe now that the main frosts are likely to be over. If there's an unusually heavy frost foreast, you can always give them a bit more protection, but that's unlikely to be needed now,at the end of March.

I've had 2 for years, and they have always been housed inside my old greenhouse or polytunnel that i have now. They are fine, keep the more tender things frost free, but all the zips went in the middle. They are still usable, i just throw an extra bit of polythene over the front on very cold nights.

I have bought a mini greenouse too! :D

My greenhouse is situated in a sunny spot from morning until early afternoon. Can I put my seeds in there in the propagator?

I too am running out of windowsill space! [IMG]

    Hi mef,
I have bought one this year. Sited on a sheltered patio( as they an blow over!)it has been great.I germinate my seeds in the kitchen and then once they have a true leaf I put them outside. just watch the gusty winds!

Hi, I have put a brick on the side of each shelf to help with the blowing over aspect. I think I will carry on germinating the seeds indoors and then put them out when they have leaves. I think it is still a tad too cold. However, I think my Morning Glory can handle being out as they are getting really big now and I want my kitchen surfaces back!!!!

I have one - and it did blow over. Now it's got a bucket of water and a sack of compost on the bottom shelf! until I get round to putting in a ground anchor, then I'll run a chain up through the mesh at the back of each shelf and down the back, through the ground anchor then lock the chain to secure (probably).
I have morning glory and sweet pea seedlings in there and they seem to be fine. The temperature does vary quite a lot, it gets very warm when it's sunny but today (cloudy) I put my hand in and it's quite cool. I think fairly well established seedlings and seeds that are OK sown outside ought to be fine though, or at least I hope so - I have the same problem you do Gilly!

I too have one, I anchored it to the hanging basket brackets and also put a paving slab on the bottom shelf. It's fantastic for housing seedlings especially when you are short of room.

I bought a mini greenhouse from Morrisons for £25. It's a walk-in one and I have put the shelves from my old small one inside it to add to the two shelves already in it. It's been a godsend for keeping germinated seeds in as the big greenhouse is always overflowing at this time of year.
We haven't had any strong winds yet, I think I ought to anchor it with sand bags, but don't know where to get any.
I shall take it down in winter.

I have a question... I have my mini greenhouse and if I want to put germinated seeds in there, do I put the propogator in there with the cover on or take it off? (that is if the greenhouse is closed?). Also, if I open it in the day to let air in, will my seeds get too cold?

Depends on the seeds and the weather! In general once seeds have germinated they don't need the heat from the propagator, they need lots of light. They won't take kindly to being frosted though, so keeping them in the greenhouse is an intermediate step.

Very happy with mine, tied around the top and back to a fence post. Only problem is heavy condensation on the inside, some small vent would have made all the difference but what can you expect for the money! Might try a small slit above the zip-up door reinforced inside and out with heavy duty tape.
