If you grow vegetables closely and you get therefore smaller fruits, will they taste similar to those growing in full space?

Yes, in my experience Miraflores - I cram all my veggies in much closer than the seed packets or gardening books recommend. Sometimes smaller is better :dbgrtmb:

I would say on many harvestables, younger vegetables will have a far better flavour, in particular leaf and root vegetables, however certain vegetables can suffer if overcrowded.

I certainly agree with JWK that you can cram things closer together than seed packets suggest

Going off track a little, I cram things in but then harvest every other one, so that starts to leave gaps for the later maturing ones. So eventually the final few get more than enough room.

Thats a good way, you get to eat the thinnings as lovely tender miniatures & still get a maincrop:thumbsup:

Just use the parafin geezer when you are thinning the carrots.

I agree, what you are harvesting is baby veg, which you have to pay an arm and a leg for in the supermarket.

Is this for the carrot root fly?

No, i'm just a pyromaniac & I like parafin with its pinky oily colour. Its a marvelous accelerant:inautumnleaves:

Only joshing there, yes, it disguises the smell of damaged carrot foliage which the carrot root fly homes in on.

Had no damage last season, for the first time ever. Partly, I suspect, because the plot is raised(although they could have flied in from one side:DOH:)
