Hi I have recently moved in to a new property with a large lawn, I have mint growing in the lawn, I have tried to poision it, with the poision that is ment to kill the roots, it does work but it has spead over a wide area and just keeps growing in a differnt place, is there anything I can do to get it out or kill it, I know mint is not good and spreads like wildfire but it is getting to me, are they any long term affects if I can not get shut of it?

    Thanks for you help

    Regards Keith

Hi Khampson, we have mint growing through part of our lawn. Why is it not good? Is there something I should know? It smells wonderful when mowed.

Hi celia, I am just so worried about it spreading? and yes it has a strong smell to it, It seems to be spreading fast and I was worried if the smell would discourage wildlife as I know very little about it.

Spray it with Verdone, this is the best selective weed killer thats aproved for ameture use.

Keith, I agree with Paul, use Verdone. At present it`s a bit too cold so leave it 2 or 3 weeks, and then go for it.

Yeah, I'm with PG and Dai. You can get it from any GC but it's called Verdone. You might need 2 applications but it works!!

I don't think mint will survive in a lawn if the grass is strong - not full of bare spots - and it gets mown regularly, although it might take a while for the mint to disappear.
Is there mint growing in a herb bed near the edge of the lawn? If there is it will try to re-invade the lawn from there. So put some deep edging down, to stop the roots growing back in to the lawn.

I don't know much about lawns but I'm OK on mint. Beechleaf is right. Keep mowing and occasionally sprinkle with sugar and vinegar. Oh and buy a leg of lamb. :D
