During the spring clean up on my little patch I noticed that my pot of mint had sent out roots from the bottom of the pot and these roots had sprouted shoots.
I cut a few off and put them in this little cheese container and just added some water.
Now sitting on the window ledge we have fresh mint to hand whenever, and all it takes is a top up of water every day!
    Happy days

Hi Robert. Nice idea, but, is it full flavoured like that grown in the ground ?

Wow that looks really great, thanks for that! I've got two mint plants on the go indoors now, one that I grew from seed and another that I bought from Tescos (my mojito craving got the better of me), the one from Tesco was horrible taste wise!

It certainly looks as though yours is flourishing really well.

So far we have only used it with potatoes and it seems OK to me.
I like the idea that its just there on the shelf when you want it and you dont have to go out if its chucking it down.
That little pot is actually getting a bit bound and I think I might thin it down a bit. Maybe start another... who knows. at this time it looks to be in better condition the the mother plant outside.
Maybe it just enjoys the quality Harrods container its growing in...:gnthb:

I think you should get a Fortnum and Masons container and put some next to it - a little competition should bring the plants on a treat.!

I usually keep some cut mint on the window cill so that it is immediately to hand - it also deters flies! However, I think you'll find you end up with even more mint, since it only takes about a week to start rooting in the water. I've found this a very good way to establish different varieties of mint which can then be potted up.

    The continuing saga:
I took another look at the posh mint this morning and it appears to be a bit pale, so.
Time to remove from pot and this is what I found
    A lot of bound roots.
Armed with scissors it was goodbye to half that root ball
    [IMG]
Then Im thinking theres not much nutriant in water so lets try a little hydroponics.
I added a little growmore to some fresh water
    [IMG]
Give it a good stir with the garden pencil
    [IMG]
With all that done its back in the Harrods pot and back to the window ledge with it.

It will be interestiing to see how thing progress.
watch this space for future updates on the Harrods mint

I found Tesco's a bit insipid. Its actually Spearmint - not as strong a flavour as the good old English Garden Mint

2 years ago my O.H. and i were house hunting and we were looking at a property in a place i can`t pronounce and it had an old garden like a jungle ,and growing right by the back door was a huge apple mint.

So i "liberated":hehe: a piece and planted it in with my mint when i got home, last year it grew but nothing inspiring,

This year it is positively glowing with health and vitality ,i have repotted into its own pot and it hasn`t looked back, and the flavour leaves my other mint for dead :rotfl:

I didn't know it was spearmint! I was so annoyed when I got home, tried to make a mojito and then found it just tasted like lime and sugar :(!

Next time I'll either be patient or go down to the farmers market and get some real mint :D
