Miscanthus zebrina-best time to cut down?

    Well, that's the question I guess! I'm sure I remember on Gardeners World it said that Miscanthus is best left till quite late to cut back?

    It's probably the last thing in the garden I haven't cut back yet, would it be ok to do it now?

    I'd cut it now before the new growth starts coming up and makes it impossible to cut back without damage to the new stuff.

    I don't know anything about Miscanthus, but I would agree in principle with Pete.

    Now is a good time for cutting many things back. I have just done it with my Iris sibrica. Last year I left it too late and it was very difficult getting rid of the thatch without harming the new growth, which was well advanced by that time.

    Well I managed to get it done (and burned) just before it started raining. I was amazed at how much new growth was coming through already, so definitiely the right time to do it!
