The sad thing is that someone raised the flag but didn't notice it was wrong

I've seen a few proper ones flown upsidedown, but that one really does take the biscuit.

No, they'd still be waiting for it to be delivered if it was ordered from China.

Many years ago, some idiot at my local District Council got Armistice Day muddled up with Bonfire Night and issued a press release for the 2 minutes silence being at 11.00 on the 5th of November!

Slightly off topic, but about 30 years ago the local council decided that the flag pole on the school where I was head was unsafe and had to come down. I told the contractors to leave it in the playground and I'd dispose of it. I cut it into sections, took it home and 20 years later it was still going strong holding up the wires supporting my rasps. Only dug the posts out when I gave up growing rasps and they were still in fine fettle.

You just know that it has been made abroad, and the order was placed by telephone - "eh, we need a flag that is a blue background, with a white cross horizontal and vertical, and then a red cross just inside the white cross; then it has a diagonal white stripe running from each corner, with a red stripe in the middle of the white stripe." "£5.99 including shipping you say - wow, you are so much cheaper than the UK would be." "No, no it doesn't matter if it takes six weeks to get here, its only June now and we don't need it until November"

"Guv!!! I just saved us an absolute fortune buy getting our flag from China!" "The councillors will be pleased with us"

I showed the picture to my other half, he reckons that the flags are being produced in multiples on long pieces of material and they've cut them in the wrong place!

Shame the Treason act was scrapped. If I'd have been responsible for any part of putting that flag up, I'd have stopped it from happening. How could anyone fail to notice?

                            That couldn't be the reason

                            flags.png

Trying to re-use an old worn out flag 'sides to middle' like with old bed sheets would be a more plausible explanation.

The council probably had a Flag Flying Working Party reporting to a Flag Flying Policy Committee and adopted a Flag FlyingPolicy after employing H&S consultants, producing tender documents for flag supplying/hoisting contractors who had to provide method statements, etc., followed by a protracted bid evaluation process to get 'best value' and then some highly paid officer in the PR Department would have produced a press release for the Cabinet Member in charge of Flag Flying (25K p.a.'expenses') to issue as if they'd written it themselves, staff would be informed about the new policy by managers at their Monday morning meetings where the staff would point out all that was wrong with it but be told by their managers it was now too late to change anything, and then it all goes horribly wrong because the post of Flag Flying Monitoring Officer was deleted in the last cost cutting exercise.
