The other day our lovely cat decided to bring home a fledgling blackbird. We didn't realise it was a fledgling at first, but when we realised that although it was still alive and looked uninjured it wasn't flying, so we got advice from a local wild bird rescue place who gave it the once over and gave us medicine/advice.

So fast forward to now, we're looking after this little bird, named Miss Birdwell by my 8 yr old, for the foreseeable future until it gets strong/big enough to be released. The rescue place lent us a cage and gave us antibiotics to give to it because of it being attacked by a cat. Miss Birdwell is seemingly getting better by the day. It's perching well today and is eating the live mealworms we've been giving it but nothing else (meat cat food and some special fine seed stuff the rescue place gave us). Other than that it's much more active and brighter (It also quite likes singing and calling out to its mates at 5am - god help me.) so it seems to have recovered from the battle with the furry feline aggressor...

I am a bit worried about it not eating anything other than the mealworms, but then I suppose they would only be eating insects etc out in the wild? I suppose I'm more concerned about knowing how much is enough and whether it should be eating more.

Is there anything I can do to help it other than what we're already doing? It seems to be getting more accepting of the cage when there's a towel over it but gets a bit stressed and jumpy when it can see the outside world. Not that I blame it...
