    I know the feeling...
    If you have just lost it, say today: why don't you restore the computer to when it was allright?
    To operate a restore, which is completely reversible, you go to:
    START>
    All Programs>
    accessories>
    system tools>
    system restore>
    restore the computer to an earlier time

    let us know !

    Also, I have found a computer site, which can help...

    Mira. System restore only arrived with XP. Windows 98 doesn't have it. It is some time since I used 98 but you should be able to repair your installation if you put in your original 98 CD Mac.

    Macleaf - I have Windows 98 second edition. As you know there is no restore facility. I assume you have a PC. But mine don't have that file, or the file path - so I am confused.

    In theory you can reinstall the whole of Windows 98 from your disc. It will write over your current operating system but will leave all your data, and all your programs should work OK. I have done this several times myself. But I always take copies of all my stuff, ie my data, copies of e-mails, address book, favorites etc. Just in case something goes wrong. I think you should do this irrespective of anything else. I try and do it on a regular basis.

    A file becomes missing because of a screw up by the computer. But you never know if it has just screwed up that one file or other stuff as well. Your testing of programs may not reveal the full extent of whats going on.

    Rather than this more drastic action I would suggest that you just re-install Outlook Express. I am not sure that the Windows 98 disk allows you to do this, but there are other ways. First check on the version you have. From the IE menu go to Help/About Internet Explorer. Mine is IE 6.0. Don't install a later version. It might not work with Windows 98.

    Then you need to find a version of that IE. I have several copies among my various installation disks. such as the disk that comes with an analog modem and the disk that came with my dial up internet provider. But my copies would be no good to you as they don't use that file. Or you could download a copy from the internet - but it must be the right version and able to run on your version of Windows.

    The first question is do you have a PC and what version of Internet Exolorer.
