How sorry I am to read your posting regarding your lost Tortoise.Unfortunatly I am in Kent so am unable to help with the search of Tilly.Just in case you haven't.Done so, inform all the local veterinary surgeries in the area she was lost from,we have had Tortoises handed in to the surgery I work at.Find out if there is a local reptile rescue and get in touch with them, they will have lots of contacts and fellow Tortoise enthusiasts who may be able to help you.
I would like to wish you well and hope that Tilly is safely returned,My heart goes out to you.
    Good luck Poppy

How very upsetting, all pets are like family members. I do hope that Tilly is found soon, let us know.

    Hi lisa0307,
sorry to hear about the tortoise.

Tortoises go in hybernation during the cold months and eat very little.
They would usually dig a hole with their back paws, as deep as 50cm.underground.
They would then cover themselves in earth.
The hybernation can last as little as four weeks to few months, according to the latitude, quantity of body fat, dimensions, age and health condition.
So I wouldn't be surprised if your Tilly dug a hole in the ground for herself.
Food would consist of : plant buds, leaves, flowers, wild fruit.Eventually also worms and slugs.
Tortoise predators are: foxes, cats, rats, wild boars, birds such as eagles.
In the summer, tortoises enjoy lying under the sun, except if the sun is very strong, they would then go in the shadow. They are active in the morning and late afternoon.
Some children keen on nature and animals or boy scouts would possibly be the more suited person to find her.
I'll post again if I find useful information.
