We have a lot of birds visiting our tiny urban garden, feeding station, pond and wild mature Ivy and shrubs for them to nest. Now we also have a visiting cat which is a bit annoying, but it doesn't seem to disturb the birds too much.

Today the cat decided to venture indoors when the back door was open and The Teenager upstairs.

    Results:
3 terrified Degus (who alerted The Teenager)
2 windowsillful of plants and seedlings thrown down
    1 scratched Teenager

I lost my precious recently sown Senecio and Cereus seeds (I did scrape the soil to pots but am not hopeful...), Agave Victoria repotted seedlings are likely goners as well, Semprevivum seedlings might survive, two out of four tomatoes took a battering and all my young chillies are half crushed.

    :gaah:

I wish people would check what their pets are doing when let out. It's not nice that we now have to keep an eye on open doors and windows just when the weather is warming up.

MOAN! MOAN! MOAN! (Thanks, that helped  )

      Always
promised myself a stable type backdoor, but never got round to it.
They are pretty popular, and we make quite a few.

We never (well, almost :rolleyespink:) leave doors open or windows open more than a little bit. The cat from four doors away thinks he owns our house as well. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

We have one and the cats just hop over it. Well, they did ... we now have a screen door with a cat flap in it (plexiglas installed on the bottom section) so the split door is never used.. :cat-kittyandsmiley:

              Thanks for sympathy folks :)

It seems that the cat might have entered through the narrow horizontal airing window on top of the large front windows. Possibly it uses that in it's own home as it allegedly tried to escape that way when it was caught red pawed yesterday.

That'll be a pain as they are often open in the afternoon when the living room gets full sun.

I have put water sprayers by the back door, if that works we'll definitely invest in those high power water guns, they look like a lot of fun

We had a courting Blackbird couple collecting nesting materials and taking it into the Ivy wilderness all days for weeks, they have disappeared since the cat appeared. Also Mr and Mrs Robin haven't been seen for a month. The sparrows et all still come to feed, but it would have been nice to have some resident population here... :frown: It's quite urban area so a little bit of nature is very welcome.

Then again, we could have had drug users or noisy people or horror kids around us, maybe a cat is manageable. And hopefully the water gunning will be fun.

                aha, mossie as in mosquito?

I'd put up insect screening on those windows. All of my windows have them and it definitely stops intruders, big or small. Cats and dogs are not allowed to run free in my town so it's pretty much only squirrels and bugs which my screens stop but the odd time I see an escapee going along the fence :)

:yikes: You'd certainly know about it if you got one of those trying to get in at the window!

Had three raccoons in the kitchen once. Herded them out using my dust mop :)

Something good came out of the cat disaster. Since my Senecio Rowleyanus seeds which were just showing a bit of germination were hopelessly lost, I felt totally justified to pay £9.99 for a nice sized plant that jumped on me at Fenwicks...

All that stress and upset certainly justify a bit of remedial splurge, normally £9.99 for a plant is considered robbery. Got myself shoes, two books and a top and a nice meal out as well. All in the name of self healing.
