can anyone tell me why my modem keeps turning off for some reason, i can be on here then take a break and come back and my internet has disconnected. It tells me that my modem is in a state of training!!!!!! training for what the london marathon, [IMG] [IMG] I have to switch off machine cos i cant get into it because there is an error,i've noticed mind the green arrows turn yellow and when i click on them it says modem state: training. Is it just me or is my computer trying to tell me something, i have had to turn off to post this cos aol would not let me get back on. Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me. YET AGAIN with the probs, think I will have to have some more of these [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

the problem is your phone line....when an adsl modem shows that it is traing after being connected, then there is either the extension your adsl modem is connected to, or the filters.

Having at last "got Broadband" lol! in March I had terrible problems trying to use it until a couple of weeks ago. I had new cable put in, had new filters, spent absolutely hours on line to TalkTalk customer services and had a local IT guy in but it still kept cutting off every few minutes.

At last I, again, spoke to somebody on TT Customer services who told me it sounded like my connection was corrupt. He talked me through setting up a new connection and to date I have not been cut off once!

Amazing that one seemingly small thing can devastate the whole system and even more amazing that it took so many people and so much time to get it sorted!

Hope you get your pc sorted soon Patricia [IMG]

I would keep on at AOL; also keep pressing them for a refund of one or more months subscription due to loss of service.
A couple of years back there was a long term problem in this area where nearly everybodies service cut out at 9 minutes past every hour for a few minutes, I got 2 months rebate when they eventually sorted it

Which ISP is free then MMD?
The AOL help line is free, which is better than most, I see some were charging £1 minute for help line, and prob keep you on hold for half an hour before they respond.

DM, MD has the same package as I have with TalkTalk - their helpline is free to their customers.

Mine is a bit different, I have a cable connection and modem, not wired BT, we had cable TV and phone, since dropped the TV in favour of satellite, phone and broadband are still cable though. Have no limit on usage since we changed from dial up a few years back.

Its not the isp fault...as suspected its the setup with the broadband.

make sure you have a filter plugged into every wall socket that houses a telephone plugged into it. that will cure the problem.

on the other hand phone BT and as them to check the Gain on your line as your having problems with the Broadband.

    That's computers for you.

Some years ago, in the early days, some of my colleagues were writing a new rom and beta testing. It kept falling over part way through the startup. Eventually one of the team looked at the coding on screen and found one character wrong. He corrected it and thousands of those roms were sold.
