    Hello,

I have planted 2 Monardas this summer. Is it normal to have a flower growing out of a flower?

    Thank you.

That is perfectly normal for Monarda. It is a member of the Lamiceae family as is the Leonotis nepetifolia in the photo below..............

What is less normal is for Monarda to thrive or survive the winter. If it is happy though it becomes a magnificent plant.

That's pretty stoney ground it's growing in, Prunus. My Monarda never last into the second year as they don't seem to like sandy soil.:dunno::cry3:

They do not like to dry out but they dislike winter wet!

Well, I've added literally tons of compost and top soil over the years but obviously not enough to satisfy certain plants. Monarda is one of my favourite plants and would fit nicely in my Bee friendly garden but...........:gaah::doh::dunno::snorky:

As I could not see anything on google images, I thought I had a very rare plant... But I like a flower that springs out of a flower, it stands out among other plants.

It is quite stoney, but when I weed, more stones end up on top of the soil with the tools I use. There is clay about 1 foot underneath. They are quite prone to mildew though.
