MONKSHOOD

Now i am busy getting root cuttings from phlox, & pasque flower could i get the cuttings from my monkshood? I am a beginner to gardening please excuse me

I was at a local Gardening Club last week where we had a lecture on 'poisonous plants' - the Monkshood (Aconitum' is probably the most poisonous of the lot including Digitalis, etc. so be careful when handling and we were told never to use as cut flowers!

I am in the process of splitting mine as I like the way it flowers late.

 

Take care with the Monkshood, but don't let it put you off growing it, it self seeds all over my garden so I have no choice and I have survived it!

 

Lucky you Waco. I left a tray of Monkshood seed outside for a whole year and never got anything.

 

Remind me in the Spring peter and I will save you some seed. Mine is the tall herbacious stuff grows about 4 ft dark blue flower in kind of hook shape.

 

Thanks Waco - yes thats the one. I have never had much success with it. It doesn't like being trampled on either. I did it one year, and it survived, but when I did it the second year it didn't survive. :D
