    hi guys

Got 3 large'ish clumps of montbretia and was wanting to split them up into smaller clumps or individual plants to cover a few of the empty spaces and bare parts of a border ..

Is it safe to do this now while there is still a bit of heat and moisture in the ground ??

the plants still have a lot of green on them and a couple of fowers, but most flowers have died back

    Iain

You could always dig some of the new bulbs up though and plant them maybe but I'm not sure if that's best done in spring....

They are as tough as old boots, if you want to do it now, then do so, they will be fine.:dbgrtmb:

I've never tried them from seed joolz but once they get going they're really easy just to split the corms, my Dad gave me a few several years ago and have clumps all over now, they grow one on top of the other like a chain, some say to plant as a chain or you can split into individual corms I find they don't often flower the first year after splitting, won't be long before you're overun with them :).

As usual Dai is right on the button here. You could also dig them up and allow them to dry out in the garage over winter and plant in spring :)
