It sounds an excellent idea :dbgrtmb: - but who is willing to be responsible for getting it together each month?

I think it would require either one enthusiastic person with some help from others or a group of people willing to get together (electronically) to organise each month.

      Volunteers please :dbgrtmb: :)

It's a good idea Steve but to do that we would have to use a 3rd party website and a good reputable organisation for bulk email sending is not cheap...

I'd also feel slightly weary of sharing our users email addresses without their knowledge:what:

so if it was made as a separate sign-up for current users and then optional for new users I'd feel better:sunny:

 Hmmm.. That is a very time consuming thing to put together & do Steve.. I for one would certainly not have that time every month.. As nice as I think the idea is, I am dubious as to who would want to commit themselves to it either.... There was once a "Things to do this Month" thread but it didn't last either... It is allot of commitment you are asking there Steve, for what would probably feel quite a thankless task after a while... This is just my personal feeling though Steve.. :sunny:

An end of year seasonal wishes mail perhaps, mentioning some of the things that have gone on here over the previous 12 months perhaps?

I'm not building a brick wall steve and as I said I like the idea but what you are suggesting isn't easily feasible and it would take quite a commitment of the staff not that we aren't willing to put the time in it's just that many of us have other commitments which we work gardeners corner around we come here for respite and to discuss the things we love:)

that doesn't mean that this isn't possible but it would need some serious thinking on our part.

besides what would you prefer Marley and me to to just ignore the question and say yes that's defiantly going to happen we can do that... and then behind the scenes complete disregard it:dunno: at least were honest about this:sunny:

Hey Steve I did say it was my personal opinion even if it is negative to your request..
Well you may be surprised to know we do sent a round robin at Christmas wishing Seasons greetings etc usually Steve.. :sunny: Also we sent them when we did the change overs & yes it does bring a few members back sometimes for a while, or some visit a few times & then not again.. Nearly all forums seem to come down to a core of regulars that is constantly changing albeit slowly.. That to me is forum life I think..

:D Now if you would like to volunteer to do the monthly email News Letter Steve & it would have to be every month, I would be willing to send it for you, but it is a big commitment for you to make Steve unless you are already doing something similar & could incorporate the 2 Steve.. I used to do something similar in a different world...
Every month I used to do a similar thing in the archery world for quite a few years.. Miss a month or be late for whatever reason & you will get ear-ache as no one is interested if you are away, ill or whatever the reason is... They want their news letter.. :D So really Steve just being realistic I think, but I am willing to be convinced otherwise.... :sunny:

Thats not really fair Steve, we are actively discussing it in the office and we are not being negative about it, just thinking it through.

You'll regret it though, when you see me in the Calendar that Miraflores suggested:heehee:

Steve, you're basic idea is a good one, but, and I know how you hate "buts" against your suggestions I don't think you have thought it through to be able to recognise the amount of Journalistic work, compilation, and co-ordination it would take. You would also need a committed, reliable team who could expend that amount of time needed to produce a monthly news letter on time, every time over a very lengthy period.

GC staff are volunteers, fitting in their work, family and personal lives around Gardeners Corner duties. I think to criticize any one who points out the reality of the problems of your suggestion by likening them to building a brick wall is unkind and unfair. It was a positive idea, Steve, but your reaction to the reality of the problems was not.
