This is what I was banging on about with my favourite place to get plants struggling and packing in mail order. It will get to the stage where pretty much all gardens will have the same plants in them...boring. No wonder Shiney's wonderful plant sale does so well and even my meagre effort for charity were incredibly well received as we both were selling plants that are very unlikely to ever grace the shelves of Lldl, Aldi or Tescos!

Who needs supermarkets when you're a GC member? Always some member to sell, trade or just donate plants/seed!

So many superb on line suppliers mean we can get all sorts of wonderful plants not available in supermarkets or garden centres.
Lucky down here too with so many garden nurseries selling unusual little gems ....at bargain prices too.
Garden centres are increasingly stocking run of the mill varieties of plants, and, yes, encouraging people to grow the same things :nonofinger:

I don't know whether it is just me but the odd times I have looked at the plants and fruit trees outside Aldi's they have collapsed from lack of water and the fruit trees all look like dead twigs with no buds or leaves on them at all even though they were in those plastic bags so I wouldn't have touched them with a barge pole:sad:

@Zigs was that Shilling you paid for those chives pre or post decimalisation

Personally I think supermarkets fill a gap.
If you are looking for some bedding plants at a good price or the odd shrub then they are ok.
Just get in quick before they kill them.

Most garden centres are pretty much over priced, especially the bigger chain types, and supermarkets are competing with them.

Supermarkets do not compete with nurseries, or specialist growers who cater for a different customer.
