I had to get to Canterbury this morning, so I thought I'd take my pocket camera. Alas, it was another grey, flat day and the slushy streets didn't add to the mood. But it's still a pretty place, in any weather.

This is the River Stour, which runs right through the centre of town. On the left is the Weavers House, now a restaurant. In the summer, you can take a boat ride from its back garden. Not many takers today, though.

One of the nice things about Canterbury is the network of narrow lanes and alleys - unless, of course, you happen to be a delivery man. Here is the little street which leads to Canterbury Cathedral.

And here we are at the end of the same street, looking at the ghostly spire of the Cathedral.

A pretty square of shops just outside the Cathedral precinct - the Butter Market. At least there's a bit of colour in this one.

Peering through the Cathedral entrance gate. Nice Christmas tree. Shame about the building work to the right.

It's impossible to take pictures of Canterbury without traffic everywhere. Unfortunately I was there at morning delivery time. :(

Canterbury is just lovely ClaraLou and your pics are great. Thank you.
I feel as if I've been for a day out. Very good - as I can't get out the door for the white stuff.

Super stuff, love the close studded, jettied timber framed houses with windbracing.

The Cathedral Gate Hotel is timber framed too, its just been plastered over, as has the building next to the old buttermarket.

Lovely looking City. Reminds me of Salisbury.

And the river, made it look like an English Venice :D

It's a lovely city Clare, my daughter went to Uni there and had her graduation in the cathedral. She used to work in the Steamer Trading shop in the Butter Market. We did enjoy our visits there.

My favourite shop was the Sugar Boy, a proper old fashioned sweetie shop in Palace Street just around the side of the cathedral - yum!

Glad you liked the pics, Alice, Ziggy, Robert and John. Robert, I had you down as a proud Yorkshireman! John, I know the shop you mean. These days I'm afraid I avert my eyes. A combination of calories and dental appointments. :)

:hehe: Sorry, John, I think this snow is destroying what brain cells I have left. I actually meant to write 'Robert', who gives his address as Yorkshire but is actually a closet Man of Kent :).
