Well - hubby is well and truly into his mowing now. We have quite a large expanse of mowable grass (I wouldn't go as far as to say it's "lawn"!!) which produces a correspondingly large quantity of cuttings.

I am layering the clippings with the shavings from the chicken coop but there's still MASSES of clippings which I worry is going to turn into black slime. I have the clippings in a seperate heap so that the compost heap isn't overhelmed.

    :flag:

Does anybody ave any other ideas about what I can do with surplus clippings?

I use my excess grass clippings as a mulch around my runner beans and potatoes and underneath hedges.

I know they go slimey if you just use grass cuttings in a compost bin, but if you leave it till next year its still good for mixing with the soil.:)

I spread my excess lawn clipping out on a hard surface to let them dry off and then use them as a mulch, like John does. They seem to disappear pretty quickly into my borders that way.
