Phone fraudsters stole £200.000 from a Scots Pensioner, Police have revealed.
The crooks told the 68 year old he had his Bank Account Compromised.
The Scammers had got him to transfer the cash to a 'Safe Account', it then vanished.

Officers advised anyone calling their Banks to verify calls to look up the number themselves and not use any number given by the fraudsters.
People should use a different line or, if that is not possible wait at least half an hour before calling.
This is because the crooks can leave the line open at their end.
Police have urged people to warn elderly relatives about the Crime.

Personally ,I have an elderly sister in law who lives on her own and suffers from Dementia.
My wife and I named our oldest daughter as Power Of Attorney for my sister in law.
This was done through the Lawyer, the Bank etc, all legally.

This leaves my sister in law with no information regarding bank accounts or Gas/Electric accounts or any other things to pay. she has no worries regarding bills or food etc.
We have informed her, if she gets a phone call from a stranger ,all she has to say is:

'I Am Very Sorry, But My Family Take Care Of All That' .

That's terrible! That's a lot of money lost to nothing. There must be a way to get it back... I can't imagine that scammers can call people and scam them just like that.

I guess it does help to read reports on phone scams after all. We can't expect to always recognize the scam all the time. I read posts at Callercenter and I was surprised to find out how many different types of phone scams are being perpetrated these days.

Hi ruthsimmons. The Scams are much easier on some elderly and people with mind/memory problems, who can be sent into Panic , and divulge things they should not over a phone to a stranger. they are easier Prey to these scams, and are a target to this low life SCUM.
